The Islamic Center of Virginia (ICVA) is holding Hajj Workshop to learn the rites of Hajj. The Workshop will be conducted at the ICVA by our Imam Ammar on Friday July 26th 2019 after Maghrib salat. Support the Virginia Hunger Solutions Program
Throughout 2019, Central Virginia’s Jewish and Muslim communities have worked together on projects to uplift our communities. These acts of loving our neighbors were spurred by the acts of hate against both communities. Faith leaders worked to create a strong, unified community in Central Virginia. What better way than focusing on a common teaching in both faiths to love thy neighbor?
Our group discussed a joint effort to raise awareness and assistance that would have an immediate impact. We decided to help a program by the Virginia Poverty Law Center (VPLC) called “Virginia Hunger Solutions” (VHS) which seeks to end systemic hunger in Virginia through research, education, and policy work. They create an annual, in-depth report on the state of breakfast participation in school divisions and are now working on a report about school meal debt. VHS has successfully advocated to ban lunch shaming in Virginia and is working towards universal school meals for all Virginian students.
OUR GOAL is to encourage our community members to contribute $25 each to reach a goal of $2,500 to support this initiative because hunger has no home here.
For Muslims, this is a special time of giving as we celebrate the month of Ramadan. Beyond fasting during the day, Muslims are to increase their good works and be generous this month. One of the great commandments in Judaism is to love our neighbors as ourselves, something reflected within Islam as well. Let’s try to reach our goal by June 4th.
Please considering donating to this wonderful cause.

|Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:|
|The Prophet was the most generous amongst the people, and he used to be more so in the month of Ramadan when Gabriel visited him, and Gabriel used to meet him on every night of Ramadan till the end of the month. The Prophet used to recite the Holy Qur’an to Gabriel, and when Gabriel met him, he used to be more generous than a fast wind (which causes rain and welfare).|
